First off, this is a great video, and I appreciate you making it. I’m going to give scarlet and violet another try tomorrow(I quit pretty early on). Team aqua and magma were awesome though, they were hyperbolic representations of actual political parties from Japan going on at the time of the games creation. The whole story and zones of Gen 3 are steeped in this discussion as well. Japan was facing an issue with population growth and feeding everyone, so they wanted to drain the ocean from a cape to make more area for farmland. Then there were fisherman and conservationists that did not want to mess up all the biomes or the way the land naturally was. The magma and aqua depictions should make more sense with that in mind, but all through gen 3 we see depictions of people living ‘with’ the land and not on it. Gen 3 is a discussion on whether humans should take pieces of land and make them efficient and convenient for humans or if we should disrupt nature as little as possible and work with nature so we can easier co-exist with non-humans.

The battle mechanics in Gen 9 is the best since Gen 5. Terra is the best (from a competitive perspective) of all generational gimmicks. I also appreciate that Gamefreak is making the competitive format a little more featured in the story. The Indigo Disk only used double battles, and trainers used some (simple) competitive strategies 👍🏻 Also, it was not covered in the main video, but many of the designs for new Pokémon in the game was top notch. Granted, the future paradox naming convention lacked originality, but I loved all the Paradox pokemons’ designs, as well as other standouts like Dondozo, Tatsugiri, Lechonk, Bombirdier, Ogrepon and more!

Im about to do a playthrough of violet since i played scarlet for the past 2 years and wanna play the story again :P

Excusing these issues is exactly why the Pokemon company doesn’t care and continues to under fund production to maximize profit. Need to be MUCH more strict about these rich, leading corporations releasing big titles like this. If it was an indie game then it would be fine. Hopefully Pal World opens their eyes

Having more detail on the map would help with how memorable the towns are cus you can look at the map like the gen 2 games.

I actually enjoyed the this generation. They tried something unique with SW being a precursor, Legends-A being the new blueprint for their main titles but not without some wrinkles to iron out. This game will be standard going forward and I am happy to see it. Nothing kills a franchise faster that jadedness and disillusionment. You have to evolve and make creative choices that will help a franchise in the long run, even if it alienates some far-weathered fans who are toxic. Sometime you have to let those people go, in order to sustain your franchises growth and survival. From generations 1 to 9 has been one major learning experience to move forward while keeping the core traditions alive and that is not easy for ANY franchise. To say S/V is the third most best selling game of all time is not surprising. Is it the best of the series? No, it still goes to Gen 2, gold and silver. But with Gen 9, Scarlet and Violet, they did everything right and what they needed to do to make this game huge-- especially with such dated hardware like the Nintendo Switch. You have to give credit when credit is due. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are major successes.

Nintendo and Game Freak should just collaborate with the studios making those gatcha games like Wuthering Waves and Honkai Star Rail to make the next Pokemon game. That would have been so good

So I do agree that conceptually the Area Zero stuff is very intriguing, but like... there's not enough meat there to justify the claim that "it's the best pokemon story we've gotten in a long time, maybe ever." Both Gen 5 and 7 absolutely style on it. There's more nuance in N than in the entirety of Gen IX. Abuse, ambition, self sabotage, ideals, heroism and inspiration, it's all there in spades with a lot to talk about. Meanwhile IX's like... well that's surprisingly dark for this game... a pity it lasts like 45 minutes. Also the big "is Area Zero the impact site for AZ's superweapon?" Question.

I think what frustrates me the most about Scarlet and Violet (and Sword and Shield) is that the seeds of great ideas, characters, stories, and adventures are there, but nothing is fully fleshed out. I left both games with an empty feeling. Mechanically, I thought Sword and Shield were stronger and easier to come back to. Conversely, Scarlet and Violet are more interesting in practically every way, but it's like it's being held together with elmer's glue. I don't love the sandwich system either, which feels like it makes up much of the postgame. Meta-wise... idk. I kind of like the new meta more despite the imbalances
